“The Photograph” virtual screening and live Q&A with director Stella Meghie

Sat, Jul 11 (6:00pm - 9:00pm)

Description

Join Women’s Weekend Film Challenge for a virtual watch party of “The Photograph” (starring Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield), followed by a live Q&A with director Stella Meghie!

The first 100 people to register will get an access code to stream the film for free!

STELLA MEGHIE’S film “The Photograph” tells a sweeping love story about forgiveness and finding the courage to seek the truth, no matter where it leads you. TIME hailed it as “a class of movie that barely exists anymore on the big screen;” and Variety said “Meghie stages it with an exploratory spirit and just enough craft to mirror the love jones of almost anyone who sees it.” It was just recently announced that Stella is in final negotiations to direct the Whitney Houston biopic titled I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY, with a script penned by Oscar-nominee Anthony McCarten and the full support from the Houston Estate and Clive Davis. Stella’s additional credits include EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING; the indie feature THE WEEKEND which debuted at TIFF in 2018; and her directorial debut JEAN AND THE JONESES, which debuted at SXSW in 2016 and received a nomination for Best First Screenplay at the Independent Spirit Awards, as well as two Canadian Screen Award nominations, including a nod in the Best Original Screenplay category.

Here are the details:

  • At 6 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, July 11, we will begin live tweeting “The Photograph” at @WWfilmchallenge, along with director Stella Meghie (@stellamink). While you watch, make sure to tag us in your tweets and use the hashtag #AskStella! Plus, follow us on Instagram (@womensweekendfilmchallenge), as we have some fun interactive stories to share!
  • NOTE: The first 100 people who register for this event will receive an access code to watch the film for free. You will not receive this access code immediately; it will be sent out closer to the event date.
  • If you are not one of the first 100 to sign up and would like to watch the film during the live tweet, you can rent the film through YouTubeAmazon and GooglePlay.
  • After the watch party/live tweet, we will host a Q&A via Zoom with director Stella Meghie starting at 8 p.m. Eastern! Women’s Weekend Film Challenge founders Katrina Medoff and Tracy Sayre will moderate a Q&A, and guests can submit their own questions during the call.
  • We will send an email to all attendees on the day of the event containing the Zoom webinar link. Make sure to add events.wwfc@gmail.com to your contact list, and check your spam and promotions folders if you do not see an email from us.

Because we know that the film community has been hit hard at this time, we are making this event free. If you are able, please consider making a donation to help fund this virtual series we’re hosting throughout the isolation period.

By signing up for this event, you will receive occasional emails from Women’s Weekend Film Challenge for future free events.

ABOUT WOMEN’S WEEKEND FILM CHALLENGE

Women’s Weekend Film Challenge (WWFC) works for gender equity by creating opportunities for women to bring their leadership, talents, and stories to the forefront of the film industry. WWFC places professional filmmakers on crews to write, shoot and edit a short film in one weekend and provides top-of-the-line equipment, insurance and workshops. This career-building opportunity is free for participants.

Since its first challenge in January 2018, WWFC has worked with over 700 women to produce 30 short films, which have been accepted to more than 60 festivals. This grassroots, bi-coastal movement combats the gender imbalance of the film industry by providing an intensive networking experience and telling women’s stories on screen.
